Come Make With Us!

  • by

It is our pleasure to share the Fall 2023 schedule for special events and workshops in the DCC Makerspace.

The DCC Makerspace is the heart of our living-learning program, where we hold classes, share resources, and provide instructional workshops. This upcoming semester is no exception.

Beginning on Thursday, September 7, the DCC Makerspace will be open on Mondays and Thursdays, from 7pm-midnight. Each Monday is designated as a "Makerjam," with supplies and materials available each week to encourage students to make their way downstairs, experiment with different tools and mediums, and find joy and pleasure in the act of making. Each Thursday is designated for open Makerspace time. All DCC students are invited to use the space to pursue creative projects, connect with friends, and find playfulness.

Students who visit the DCC Makerspace on Mondays and Thursdays will receive 15 points per visit.

DCC Student Managers will be on duty on both Mondays and Thursdays, to track attendance, provide assistance, ensure safety, and support peers' creative pursuits.

In addition to these open hours, the Makerspace will host several workshops throughout the semester: 3 TeachMe Thursday workshops and 2 Design Camps.

For full details, including event specifics (such as topics/skills, instructors, and times), please download the full flyer.

TeachMe Thursdays

These workshops are designed to be casual, laidback instructional environments. Led by DCC students or alums, these workshops will provide basic supplies and materials for students to learn a craft or skill. No preparation or existing skill level is expected or required. Feel free to drop in when you can and leave when you must.

Students who attend a TeachMe Thursday workshop will earn 50 points for their DCC Family.

Design Camps

These hands-on trainings are more structured and formalized, aiming to provide more extended instruction in a technical skill. Taught by a DCC alum, they will take place over the course of 2 or more sessions, and attendance is expected for the duration of the Design Camp. Some preparation (such as downloading software) may be required. As Design Camps are more formal, the number of available seats is limited and advanced RSVP is required for participation. Interested students should visit the DCC Events Calendar to locate their desired Design Camp and to RSVP.

Students who complete a Design Camp will earn 200 points for their DCC Family.
