It's officially August, which means we are gearing up to welcome students (back) to the University of Maryland THIS month! DCC is delighted to announce this year's Welcome Weekend 2023 activities, designed to embrace our incoming Xi cohort as they arrive on campus for the first time.
- Prince Frederick Hall Move-In. DCC staff will be on-hand to welcome students as they move into the residence hall on Thursday, August 24. Look for our table in the lobby—we'll want to say hi, distribute your new DCC swag, and answer any initial questions you have. If you're commuting this year or are otherwise unable to stop by, we'll save your stuff for you and make sure you get it in the first session of HDCC105!
- Honors College Convocation. Thursday, August 24, 7:30pm, Dekelboum Concert Hall. This ceremony is a special one; on the first night after move-in, it convenes the entire 2023 freshman class of the Honors College for the first and only time. Rather than make your way to the Clarice A. Smith Performing Arts Center on your own, meet up with DCC staff at 7pm outside the lobby of PFH—we'll walk over together!
- Ice Cream Social + Lawn Party. Friday, August 25, 2-3:30pm, PFH Patio. Take an hour or so to get to know your new DCC peers and staff, while indulging in some free ice cream from the Maryland Dairy! DCC's lawn games will also be available if you're feeling competitive! - Sunday Family Bingo. Sunday, August 27, 4pm, PFH #1105. We're kicking off the 2023-2024 DCC First Family contest with four big Bingo prizes, and the first Family points of the year! Both new and returning students are invited to attend and get to know their new DCC Family! We'll start at 4pm and we'll play until all four prizes are claimed.
- Annual TerpZone Takeover. Tuesday, August 29, 7-9pm, Stamp Student Union. It's an annual tradition! DCC students—alumni, too!—are invited to help us takeover TerpZone for a night full of bowling, billiards, and videogames. Wear your DCC swag; it's your ticket for entry!
