Spring Makerspaces Tour: UMD BookLab

March 5 @ 4:00 pm - 5:15 pm

Free

In lieu of Design Camps and TeachMe Thursday Workshops, Dr. Lu is hosting a Spring Makerspaces Tour of key creative destinations on campus this semester. Boost your DCC Family with 100 points while you explore some of the resources UMD has to offer beyond Prince Frederick Hall. Any student who completes the entire tour will receive 500 additional Family Points; but, space will be limited for each “field trip,” so be sure to reserve a spot!

For this first stop, we’ll visit the UMD BookLab on a rescheduled (due to snow) date, Wednesday, March 5, at 4pm. A creative home for the English department, the BookLab’s resources include six different hand-presses for letterpress printing; a cabinet full of lead and wood type; two typewriters; a 3D printer, Cricut, and Glowforge; material and tools for paper-making, bookbinding, zine-making, and sensors and circuitry for paper computing. BookLab also has an extensive library of artists’ books, experimental books, how-to guides, historical artifacts, books about books, and more.

Joining us? Meet up in the lobby of Prince Frederick Hall at 3:30pm to walk over together!
