Community Print @ BookLab

March 4, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

DCC students have received a special invitation to visit the English department’s BookLab and meet Petrou Artist-in-Residence Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr., arguably the foremost Black letterpress printer in the country. Mr. Kennedy uses the traditional medium of letterpress to print quotes, proverbs, folks sayings, and other forms of communal language in order to intervene in present day issues related to race and other issues in American society. Examples of his work are available on his website (http://www.kennedyprints.com/posters1.html) and have additionally been the subject of a feature length documentary, Proceed and Be Bold.

As part of a two-day visit to the BookLab, Mr. Kennedy will host a Community Print event from 11am to 5pm on Wednesday, March 4, 2020. Jason will escort a small cohort of DCC students over to BookLab around 11am, giving them the opportunity to chat with Mr. Kennedy and even print with him, using the BookLab’s own presses and type. You’ll have a poster to take home with you!

Space is limited for this special event. Please RSVP below!
