The end of this week was very successful!
Emily and Don were able to get a decent amount of material welded together. It is a difficult process, including grinding down the cut edges in order to remove the paint prior to welding. The picture below shows one of the halves of the arching part of the frame, it has been welded! It is very exciting seeing the project come together.
Also, I have made great progress in painting, and with the help of Emily and another friend this weekend, I now have all of the pieces painted. I simply need to repaint the white edges to seal them all up, and then attach the turtle shell shapes to the large wooden panels. This is the final step before attaching the wooden decoration to the metal frame. While we are very behind schedule, we may yet have a project to show for our Capstone fair, or at the very least visible parts of it!
