The Wood Backing

In order to make the wood panel backing for the structure, we cut and painted wood in the image of our mascot, Testudo. We began with four 2×8 foot panels that we are going to attach directly onto the metal frame, and then we cut out turtle shell shaped pieces and attached them onto these 2×8 panels.

Below is a picture of the pieces of the turtle shell right after they were cut.

Below is a picture as the turtle shell pieces are being primed, in order to seal the wood from the elements.

Below is a picture of the painted panels, which are red with a white border.

Below is a picture of the assembled wood panels, complete with the 2×8 pieces on the back to support the turtle shell pieces and to connect them to the metal structure.
