Jack Hicks, "Trans Stories"

Historically, transgender people have had few platforms for their creative expressions, and the platforms that they could use also allowed abuse against them. While a few archives focusing on queer and transgender media exist, those archives primarily concern themselves with preserving history rather than contemporary media. With these limitations in mind, could there be a platform that preserves the contemporary creative expressions of transgender people? This project aims to create such a platform. To accomplish this goal, this project will take inspiration from existing queer and transgender archives to build a foundation of definitions, usage of terms, and methods of collection. From this foundation, this project will involve the creation of a website to host the new archive. Through this process, this project hopes to build a community of transgender people interested in exploring their identities through creative expression, helping them to become more familiar with their identities on their own terms while also enhancing research into transgender topics with their own voices.
