Tiffany Yen, "A Visual Expression of Emotion"

The human mind and our emotions are one of the most ambiguous and mysterious things in the world. Art is the expression of human imagination and creativity in a visual from that has existed for as long as time. For this project, I aim to combine these two areas, to turn the intangible into the tangible, by translating emotions into a physical representation that can enjoyed by many. This project focuses on the following:

Nostalgia: “A longing to return to an earlier period or condition of life recalled as being better than the present in some way.”

Sonder: “The realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.”

Onism: “The frustration of being stuck in just one body, that inhabits only one place at a time.”

These three emotions are centered by the common theme of time. Nostalgia represents the past, sonder represents the present, and onism represents the future. Through this project, I hope to utilize my art and design skills I learned from DCC to express my own perspectives on these emotions and to allow viewers to come up with their own interpretations as well.
