Alexandra Kallaur, "Capturing the Diversity of Immigrant Narratives through a Multimedia Lens"
It has been said time and time again that the United States is a nation of immigrants, and each immigrant has a uniquely fascinating story to tell. Often lost in the discussion of immigration in the United States is this rich diversity of immigrant narratives. The goal of this project is to use a multimedia approach to interview several different immigrants from different countries of origin, circumstances of immigration, and generations to showcase their stories through various displays, such as social media communities, traditional music, and family recipes. The project hopes to challenge the assumptions often made about immigrants, and the stereotypes that lump them together. It also aims to explore the potential for different media in very personal storytelling. I interviewed four different immigrants and then created a website to display their stories side-by-side, highlighting both the similarities and differences of those that left their home countries to live in the United States.
